Why title and description length matter
The SEO title (title) and the meta description are the first things people see in Google results. If they're too long, Google cuts them off with an ellipsis; if they're too short, they waste space you could use to convince people to click. Google limits by pixel width, not characters, which is why this tool measures both.
Recommended lengths
- Title: up to about 580 px, which is on average 50–60 characters.
- Description on desktop: up to about 920 px (around 150–160 characters).
- Description on mobile: up to about 680 px (around 110–120 characters).
Pixel measurements are an estimate, and Google may rewrite the title or description depending on the search; use them as a guide, not a guarantee.
How to write a good snippet
- Put the main keyword near the start of the title and naturally in the description.
- Give every page a unique title and description.
- End the description with a reason to click: a benefit, a fact or a call to action.
To count words in a long text use Word Counter, and if you share a contact on your pages, prepare the link with WhatsApp Link Generator.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many characters should an SEO title have?
Typically 50–60 characters, or up to about 580 pixels wide. Beyond that, Google usually cuts it off.
And the meta description?
About 150–160 characters on desktop and 110–120 on mobile, or roughly 920 and 680 pixels.
Why is it measured in pixels?
Because each letter takes a different width: an “i” is narrower than an “m”. Google truncates by width, not by character count.
Does Google always show my meta description?
Not always. It may rewrite it based on the user's search, but a good description raises the chances it's used.
