Underlined text draws a line under every letter: U̲n̲d̲e̲r̲l̲i̲n̲e̲. It highlights a key word in places that don't allow formatting, like bios, comments or post titles.
How Unicode underlining works
Unlike other styles, the letters don't change. The generator adds a combining character, «combining low line» (U+0332), after each letter, and your device draws it beneath the previous one. That's why the text stays readable, and also why each underlined letter counts as two characters.
Variants
- Single underline (U+0332): the most compatible.
- Double underline (U+0333): t̳e̳x̳t̳, for stronger emphasis.
- Strikethrough (U+0336): t̶e̶x̶t̶, perfect for old prices — see our strikethrough generator.
Each app draws combining characters its own way: some show a continuous line, others small gaps between letters. That's normal and has nothing to do with the generator.
